We’re tracking 3 low pressure systems - but NZ has plenty of dry weather coming thanks to high pressure, which will block most of the tropical lows from reaching us for the rest of January.

Today - we have Category 2 Tropical Cyclone IRENE moving through Vanuatu. It will cross the southern half of the nation across daylight hours today - and clears away tonight to the south east. It’s unlikely to reach NZ due to incoming high pressure.

There are two other lows - one near East Cape and Gisborne still bringing in some wet weather - plus another low in the Coral Sea which may (briefly) also become a tropical cyclone this week, and also poses no current threat to NZ.

South of Australia there is plenty of high pressure heading towards NZ - with more dry weather than wet weather coming, but a cooler change for some in the south arrives in the coming days. A cyclone, downpours + a lot of high pressure
